Guess what, high school students – college auditions and auditions for the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program’s high school ensembles will be here before you know it!

What if you could spend some quality time with professional musicians, learn some audition tips and tricks from the pros to prepare you for college and AYSP high school auditions, and work specifically on your AYSP audition excerpts so that you could totally crush that audition??

Sound too good to be true? Well, it’s not!

AYSP will host a series of Audition Masterclasses taught by members of the University of New Mexico Music Department on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the AYSP Building. These classes are open to all high school students (including current 8th grade students), whether or not they currently participate in an AYSP ensemble. While the UNM professors will be working with students on the AYSP 2023 audition excerpts, these workshops will also be helpful to any student contemplating a college music audition, so even rising high school seniors or other high school students not planning to audition for the AYSP 2023-2024 season are welcome to attend and participate.

• 5:30 – 6:30 pm   Woodwinds and Brass (flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, horn, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, euphonium and tuba)
• 6:30 – 7:00 pm   PIZZA!
• 7:00 – 8:00 pm   Percussion and Strings (snare, xylophone, timpani, violin, viola, cello, bass)
