Please note that there is a $5.00 audition fee, which students should bring to their audition. Students will be auditioned on a prepared solo of their choice (no accompaniment), major scales up to 4 sharps and 4 flats, AND EXCERPTS (students should request excerpts from their music teachers or can download the excerpts from www.aysmusic.org). Vibrato is encouraged on the scales.
NOTE: 9th graders may be placed in AYS, AYO or AJS, if selected. New this year, 9th grade students may choose to opt out of the excerpts and only be considered for the AJS.
The AYS and AYO tour each year, and participation in the tour is required by all members.
PLEASE NOTE:
1. All public, parochial, private and home school students within a 50-mile radius of Albuquerque are eligible.
2. Students in grades 9 - 12 and 14 years old as of September 15th, 2011 are eligible.
3. Students must be enrolled as regular members of their school band or orchestra, if offered. Enrollment will be verified.
4. Students accepted into the AYS Program will be required to pay a tuition fee as established annually by the AYSP, Inc. Board of Directors. Need- based financial aid is available.
5. CAMP ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED. AYO camp - July 31 - Aug 3; AYS camp - Aug. 3 - 6
Students selected will be notified BY MAIL IN MID JUNE. AUDITIONS WILL NOT BE HELD AGAIN IN THE FALL
