ALBUQUERQUE YOUTH SYMPHONY DECORATES THE TOWN WITH LUMINARIAS FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

The students of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony, now celebrating its 53rd year, are selling Luminarias for the holiday season. The members of the AYS Chamber Music Program will perform live on the air, during the annual Radiothon on KHFM 95.5 FM on Saturday, November 9, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. You may call in and order your Luminarias that morning, or you may order anytime before November 24 by calling 875-1319 or on our website at www.aysmusic.org.

The Luminarias are $7.50 per dozen, with a 3 dozen minimum order required for delivery, and will be delivered on Saturday, December 6, 2008. Last year, the AYS students assembled and delivered 11,000 dozen luminarias in the Albuquerque area (including Corrales and Rio Rancho). The AYS students have been folding paper bags - over one hundred thousand - since music camp in August. Sixty tons of sand will be delivered to 10 workhouses across the city. The AYS students, along with their families and friends, will assemble the luminarias by adding sand and a candle to each paper bag. The luminarias will be delivered to your door with a smile.

The proceeds from the Luminarias will benefit the Albuquerque Youth Symphony's tour to Australia in June, 2009, which will include the AYS giving a performance at the famous Sydney Opera House.

AYS Alumni Event

Chamisa Chamber Players Benefit Recital

The Chamisa Chamber Players will perform a recital to benefit the Bosque String Ensemble, on Friday, November 14, 2008 at 7:30pm in Budagher Hall at Bosque School.

The program will consist of:

• Franck Piano Quintet
• "Sunrise" Quartet, Op. 76, No. 4, Haydn
• First Movement, Cello Quintet, Schubert -- with special guest player, Patrice Brown, Bosque Senior, cello

The Chamisa Chamber Players are:

• Megan Holland and Nicolle Maniaci, violins
• Cherokee Randolph, viola
• James Holland, cello
• Darby Fegan, piano

Admission is free, and donations are encouraged at the door.

Junior Youth Band Auditions

The Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program will be holding auditions for its Junior Youth Band on Saturday, December 6 at 9:00 a.m. at Eldorado High School's band room (11300 Montgomery Blvd. NE).

The Junior Youth Band is offered to middle school students (grades 6 - 8) who live within a 50-mile radius of Albuquerque. The Junior Youth Band will rehearse on Saturday mornings from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Eldorado High School. There will be an $85 tuition fee for those accepted.
